It’s no secret that I LOVE Houston and I LOVE graphic walls. When I found this mural downtown, I knew that I had to blog in front of it ASAP! I love that this wall illustrates everything that I admire about Houston. It is indeed an inspired, hip, tasty, funky, and savvy city (and colorful!). Sure, there are a lot of things that I don’t love – the heat, humidity, traffic, and terrible public transportation. We also seem to have a reputation for being a bunch of conservative cowboys. However, inside “the loop,” there is a rich and diverse culture with tons of other “tree-hugging hippies” – as my family so lovingly called me when I was younger 😉 The neighborhood that I live in is known as the “gay-borhood” and I love that everyone can just be themselves and nobody cares, ya know what I mean?
I have always been one of those “I can have fun in any city” types of people and I love finding cool and hip local spots anywhere I go. In Houston, I NEVER run out of new places to try. I mean, amazing restaurants are seriously everywhere (and food comes in monstrous proportions, because Texas ya’ll). The museum district and the zoo is only about a five minute drive from my place. I love all of the museums, but my favorite is going to parties at the museums, because what’s more fun than sipping a cocktail whilst perusing art? And don’t even get me started on the local boutiques. I try to stop by as many as I can, but the amount of stores I haven’t even been to yet is overwhelming!
So tell me – what do you love about your city? And for my fellow Houstonians – send me a recommendation for your fave restaurant/bar/store/etc!
