We only had one full day in Nashville, so we jam packed our schedule and made the most of it! I still can’t believe how much we did in one day…it was crazy fun! We took these outfit photos in the morning while strolling around through downtown Nashville, and then we ditched the camera for the rest of the day. I wish I had photos from all the fun stuff we did, but if you were following along on Snapchat (username: shopandtwirl) then you saw our very busy, Snap-happy day!

We spent the day in Nashville with my aunt, uncle, cousin, cousin-in-law, and baby Ainsley. None of us had experienced Nashville before, so we had to do everything! Our long list of adventures included: visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame, touring Ryman Auditorium, lunch at Merchants on Broadway (such a cute place!), stopping for a latte at the Johnny Cash Museum (that counts as visiting, right?), shopping for boots and souvenirs on Broadway and having a beer at Tootsies.

That evening George and I ventured out on our own to hit up a different part of town. I wanted to take pictures at the “I Believe in Nashville” wall (first photo), so we headed over to take some photos and eat some BBQ for dinner. Unfortunately it started raining on us, so we only got a few snaps! We escaped the rain at Edley’s BBQ on 12 South and it was SO good. I had to try the hot chicken, which is apparently the thing to eat in Nashville. It was really delicious, but holy geez my mouth was burning! After dinner we went back to our hotel and hit up a bar only a few blocks away. We had a couple beers and made sure to stay until midnight, which officially marked George’s birthday! It was so fun to celebrate with him while on an awesome vacation.

PS – if you’re headed to Nashville and want to take some awesome photos, my fellow blogger Jessica has a great round up Nashville murals which you can check out here!

My next and final post of this series will be all about our visit to Graceland in Memphis, TN. Catch ya later!

Road Trip Diaries: Athens of the South

I’m back today with another outfit post from our road trip to Kentucky. After we left Kentucky, we took a very leisurely route on our way home. We stopped to stay in Nashville, Tennessee for two nights because there was no way I was driving through without seeing the city! I had never been before but always wanted to visit, and Nashville did not disappoint us!

On this particular day we spent the morning in Kentucky, made the three hour drive to Nashville, and then explored the city a little bit in the evening. I wanted to wear an outfit that could take me through the whole day with no fuss. I tend to pack light on trips so that I don’t have to deal with a bunch of outfit changes. I always bring my most comfortable (but cute) clothes and shoes with the hope that I won’t ever have to fuss with what I’m wearing. I’d like to think that I’m pretty low maintenance on vacations, but I’m sure my husband would disagree with that!

Anyway, our hotel in Nashville was in an awesome location. We were directly across the street from Vanderbilt University, and just down the street from Centennial Park. After we checked in to our hotel and relaxed for a bit, we decided to get out and walk around. Visiting the park was on my Nashville bucket list because they have a Parthenon replica inside the park. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you know that we went to Greece on our honeymoon last year and visited the real Parthenon in Athens. I think it’s kind of silly and totally awesome that there is a Parthenon replica in Nashville, which has a fascinating history that you can read more about here. Apparently Nashville is known as “Athens of the South,” which I don’t completely understand but I’m totally on board with it anyway. We had an awesome visit enjoying the beautiful cool weather and snapping a million selfies. It was definitely a must-see for anyone visiting Nashville for the first time.

My next outfit post will feature more about Nashville, so stay tuned!

Road Trip Diaries: Floral Maxi Dress in Georgetown, KY

George and I recently went on a week long road trip with my family to see my baby cousin Lindsey graduate from Georgetown College in Kentucky. We drove through Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky and we made a lot of fun stops along the way! This post is part one of a four-part Road Trip Diaries series that I plan to post over the next few weeks.

I had never been to Tennessee or Kentucky before, but I absolutely loved it! The scenery was so green and beautiful with the rolling hills and pretty rivers. We usually take a road trip every year to Albuquerque, which is all desert and kind of a boring drive until 15 hours later when you finally hit the mountains. It was a lot of fun to change things up and head in the opposite direction this time. Of course, regardless of where we are going I always love being on the open road with my husband, and I wish we had more time to drive to new places more often.

We only spent two nights in Kentucky so we didn’t have the opportunity to do much, but it was still a great time! I wore this beautiful floral maxi dress to Lindsey’s graduation that I talked about in my haul video here. I was so happy to finally have the chance to wear this long sleeve dress since it had been so hot in Houston lately. I checked the weather before we left and was expecting it to be in the 60’s in Kentucky, but it ended up being even colder! It was about 55 degrees and raining the morning of graduation, so all of us Texas-folk were miserable! I never thought that I would need boots in May but I was really wishing that I had brought some. In the end, we all survived and we were able to enjoy a fun post-commencement lunch with all of our family together. I am so proud of my sweet Lindsey and all of her accomplishments!

I also have to throw in a little plug for Kentucky. I had no idea what to expect, but it is such a beautiful state! Everything is so green, the people are nice, there are horses everywhere and so many fun things to do. I wish we could have had time to go on some distillery tours because that is definitely on my bucket list now. We did enjoy the nightlife in downtown Lexington one evening and we had such a blast! My cousins, George and myself tried so many awesome local beers. We also spent a fun morning at Evans Orchard and Cider Mill with baby Ainsley and she totally loved it. Even though apples aren’t in season right now, there were plenty of things to do. We wish we could have brought Neal with us because I know he would have loved running around that place! We also bought a jug of delicious frozen apple cider that we were able to enjoy it in our hotel room later.

My next post will be all about Nashville, so I’ll see y’all back here next week!
