Welcome back to day 3 of WEDDING WEEK! We had such an amazing time dancing the night away at our reception. I think it was a night to remember for everyone!
We had three amazing speeches at our wedding. My maid of honor/cousin Lauren gave a speech that included words and stories from each of my bridesmaids. It was essentially like all six of them came together to create one amazing, epic mega-speech! It was just so thoughtful and I was completely surprised by it. She also managed to work in the words “this wedding is on fleek” so I have to give her an A++! George had his best man/best friend Scott give a speech that included some hilarious stories of him when he was younger. We also had George’s brother Spencer give a speech and it was amazing! I don’t know if I have mentioned this before, but Spencer is an author and he is truly gifted in the art of storytelling – he took the crowd through a roller coaster of emotions during his speech…let’s just say that there was a big twist that left us all laughing so hard!
The Silly Stuff
Do you know how awkward it is to cut a cake with another person? I guess we should have practiced all that stuff before the wedding because we were so clueless! It definitely made for some good laughs. Another thing that we never practiced was our first dances – 3 or 4 minutes is a LONG time for people to just stare at you! There were definitely some awkward moments in there but we were so happy that we were just laughing at anything and everything. It was such a perfect and fun night!
George and I had our first dance to You are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. If you’ve never heard the song before, I suggest you click here to listen – I love it so much! The lyrics are really sweet but it’s not a sappy or mushy song. It’s upbeat and happy, which is exactly how we roll. George’s dance with his mom was to Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I danced with my dad to Butterfly Kisses. The rest of the dance party included some awesome 80’s and 90’s jams that had everyone on the dance floor. I honestly can’t remember what all songs were played, but I definitely remember Footloose and I’m Too Sexy, if that gives you any clue about our partying style! We ended the night dancing to Home and then we were sent off with a fun bubble exit.
I don’t think I could ever fully describe the love we felt on the night of our wedding. We are insanely blessed to have so many family and friends who came to our wedding to help us celebrate. The feeling of being completely surrounded at once by everyone you love the most in the world is just so freaking cool. I know that’s not the most eloquent way to describe it, but I don’t know what else to say! It was an amazing, fleeting moment in time that we will always cherish.
