I am SO excited that I have my wedding pictures back, and I can’t wait to share my favorites here! I plan to do several more blog posts discussing different elements of our wedding, but today I wanted to start out with my favorite topic – finding The Dress (which falls just second in importance to finding The Spouse)!
I always knew that buying a wedding dress would be one of the most important parts of planning my own wedding. While I didn’t really care much for the whole wedding planning process, I have to say that finding a dress was so fun and stress free! I had expected that finding a dress would be really difficult because I knew that I had expensive taste, a limited budget, and was very picky about the styles I liked. I didn’t want to look like a cookie-cutter bride, but I also didn’t want to look too trendy. I had to find something that was classic and timeless without being boring. I always told myself that I didn’t want to look at my wedding pictures in 10 or 20 years and think that I look outdated. I’m hoping that I will pass my own test, but I am so in love with my dress that I can’t foresee myself ever not loving it!
When I first started thinking about a wedding dress, I did a little bit of research on styles I liked and potential stores to visit around Houston. I pinned several dresses that I liked on my wedding dress Pinterest board and flagged tons of pictures in magazines. Then one random Friday evening I was browsing Facebook and came across some information about a wedding dress sample sale in Houston that was happening the next day. I texted my mom to see if she was free and luckily she was, so we made plans to meet up the next morning to go over to the sale.
We honestly had zero expectations about the sample sale, especially because I had never even tried on a wedding dress or gone to look in person. We were surprised to find that there were no crowds, and we could easily browse the aisles and pull whatever I wanted to try on. I honestly could not believe how many beautiful dresses they had that were right up my alley! I ended up starting with three dresses in the fitting room. Dress #1 was pretty, but it was strapless which I didn’t really want. Dress #2 was awful on me. Dress #3 was THE DRESS! (Yes, it was just like Goldilocks!)
There were no mirrors inside the fitting room, so I had to come all the way out of the fitting room area in order to look at myself in a mirror. When I put on the third dress and walked out across the store over to the mirror, people were literally staring at me. I saw myself in the mirror, turned to my mom, and was like…holy crap! I think we were both shocked that I had found something so perfect so quickly. I walked around in the dress for a long time, debating the pros and cons. There really were not any cons except that I had not had The Experience of being in a bridal store, bringing all my family, having everyone cry, etc. In the end, my mom and I decided that we did not need to have that experience in order to find the perfect dress. When I think back on it, it was actually the perfect experience for me…it was low key, easy, and a special moment with my mom that I’ll always cherish. I even got to say “I’m saying yes to this dress!” which makes it totally official if you ask me.
So now I have some awesome news to share with y’all! That exact same bridal gown sample sale is now back in Houston! They are in town from August 13-15th, so tomorrow is your last day if you want a chance to stop in. The sale only comes once a year, so if you are interested I’d highly recommend you break all your plans for this weekend and head over to the sale instead! All of the dresses are designer gowns, with prices starting at $1500. The prices are marked from 40-60% off of retail price. If you have expensive taste but a small budget like I did, this is definitely the place to be! I never, EVER would have been able to afford my Romona Keveza dress at retail price – I got it for such an insane bargain at this sale that it’s kind of unreal. If you have questions about the sale, or just want to check out what their selection is like, be sure to hop over to their Facebook page to get all the latest info. If you decide to go look at dresses, let me know and I’ll go with you 😉
